I need sleep…

Last night was a rough night for sleeping.  One of my 6 dogs has had tummy issues.  A few days ago, she did not eat at all, and then yesterday she ate just fine.  But then last night, she needed to go out 4 times.  So, needless to say, I did  not get good continuous sleep.  This morning, I am again reminded of how important sleep really is to my overall health.  I feel irritable, sluggish, I have no energy to exercise, and feel like my brain has left on the midnight train to Georgia.  The lack of proper sleep has been linked to sleep disorders, heart problems (sleep helps the rebuilding of blood vessels), depression, and many other illnesses.  So what impact does sleep have on us when it comes to health and exercise?

Now, I am no expert in the field of sleep, but, it doesn’t take an expert to understand that if we are not getting adequate sleep, then our bodies will not be able to function at a high level.  Yet, we as humans, have a busy schedule to keep.  We have families, jobs, activities.. etc.  And on top of that,  we need to fit in some exercise time as well. We put a very high demand on our bodies each day.  Which is another reason why we need to make sure that the nutrients we are consuming, will allow our bodies to keep moving at the pace we require it to.  When we are not sleeping, AND we are not eating healthy, our bodies are going to act out.  They WILL stop working.  This is when disease and illness to creep in and start taking a toll on us.  We have to make sure that we treat the health of our bodies,  with the same importance we put on the rest of our lives.  Because, well, let’s face it; if we don’t maintain a healthy lifestyle, then our bodies will eventually give up.

I am sure you have heard the same story time after time.  But believe me, our health MATTERS!  We only have one body, and it has to last us a lifetime.  I don’t know about you, but I want that lifetime to last as long as possible.  I do not want it to be cut short just because I failed to take care of it.  If we are to live our lives to the fullest, we need to make sure we are doing everything in our power to stay healthy.  So, GO!  Live a life that is going to bring you pure joy and prosperity!

    So true!! Sleep is a major part of our health….how we function and what we are able to do throughout the day!! Sleep is very important. I know when I do not get a good nights sleep, I struggle the next day. What I eat that day, especially prior to going to bed, makes a huge impact on how I sleep. Thanks honey for the insight!!

  3. Most people don’t consider how important sleep is for not only our health, but for weight loss. I find that if I can get 7+ hours of sleep, if I ate right the day before, I will see some loss on most days.
